New Mail Settings on Sify Broadband!

Dear Sify Broadband subscriber,

As a valued Sify Broadband customer, it is our continuous endeavour to bring to you the latest services and features that will enhance and improve your Sify Broadband Internet experience.

Towards this, w.e.f 31st January 2005 (Last date extended for customer convenience) we will be incorporating certain changes on our E-mail server for added security and virus protection. This will benefit you immensely in terms of :

1. FASTER DELIVERY OF MAILS
2. ADDED SECURITY WHILE SENDING MAILS
3. VIRUS PROTECTION

thereby resulting in Greater efficiency and Stability of the service.

You will be able to experience these benefits only by making certain changes on your Email client (Outlook Express etc).

Detailed explanation of these changes as well as the step-by-step instructions to incorporate these changes on your email client (Outlook Express) is given below :

I. Authentication of outgoing mails:

Current System: In the absence of authentication, you could find your mail id being part of various mailing lists where you keep on getting unsolicited mails. Further, it could also allow spammers to use your mail id to send mails. Thus, whilst you are not the actual author of the mail, it will go on your mail id thereby giving it legitimacy that the mail has been sent by you only.

New System: Under the new system, for sending out mails, it will require you to authenticate yourself with your Sify Broadband User id and password . This will ensure that no such undesired mails are sent out using your mail id. Also, under the new system the defaulters for Spamming etc can be identified and cautioned / blocked, hence reduced Spamming, which effectively results in increased system efficiency and security.

II. Enhanced Virus Protection

Current system: As you are aware, the spread of the Internet has brought along with it malicious viruses that can identify your system on the network and gain access into it. There are certain identified “ports” that these viruses search for on your system to spread the virus.

New System: Under the new system, Sify broadband will use an unique port number for email services to combat the virus spread.

Isn’t that a great news to users always wary of virus attacks and its spread !!!
